
As promised in a previous post, I am reviewing the recently passed Water Resource Development Act for projects and studies in each state.
I found this morning that there were 100 million dollars worth of projects allocated for South Carolina. Most of the projects (9 out of 13) were along the South Carolina coast. Here is a map of the locations.

List of Projects with the descriptions from the Act:
- PAWLEYS ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA- The project for hurricane and storm damage reduction, Pawleys Island, South Carolina: Report of the Chief of Engineers dated December 19, 2006, at a total cost of $8,980,000, with an estimated Federal cost of $5,840,000 and an estimated non-Federal cost of $3,140,000, and at an estimated total cost of $21,200,000 for periodic nourishment over the 50-year life of the project, with an estimated Federal cost of $10,600,000 and an estimated non-Federal cost of $10,600,000.
- SURFSIDE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA- Project for flood damage reduction, Surfside Beach
- WILSON BRANCH, CHERAW, SOUTH CAROLINA- Project for aquatic ecosystem restoration, Wilson Branch, Cheraw, South Carolina.
- CROOKED CREEK, BENNETTSVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA. The Secretary shall conduct a study to determine the feasibility of carrying out a project for water supply, Crooked Creek, Bennettsville, South Carolina.
- BROAD RIVER, YORK COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA. The Secretary shall conduct a study to determine the feasibility of carrying out a project for water supply, Broad River, York County, South Carolina.
- SAVANNAH RIVER, SOUTH CAROLINA AND GEORGIA. The Secretary shall determine the feasibility of carrying out projects to improve the Savannah River for navigation and related purposes that may be necessary to support the location of container cargo and other port facilities to be located in Jasper County, South Carolina, in the vicinity of Mile 6 of the Savannah Harbor entrance channel; and to remove from the proposed Jasper County port site the easements used by the Corps of Engineers for placement of dredged fill materials for the Savannah Harbor Federal navigation project.
- CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA- $10,000,000 for wastewater infrastructure, including wastewater collection systems, and stormwater system improvements.
- CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA- $4,000,000 for stormwater control measures and storm sewer improvements, Spring Street/Fishburne Street drainage project.
- CHARLESTON AND WEST ASHLEY, SOUTH CAROLINA- $6,000,000 for wastewater tunnel replacement, Charleston and West Ashley, South Carolina.
- CROOKED CREEK, MARLBORO COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA- $25,000,000 for a project for water storage and water supply infrastructure on Crooked Creek, Marlboro County, South Carolina.
- MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA- $18,000,000 for environmental infrastructure, including ocean outfalls, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
- NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA- $11,000,000 for environmental infrastructure, including ocean outfalls, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
- SURFSIDE, SOUTH CAROLINA- $11,000,000 for environmental infrastructure, including stormwater system improvements and ocean outfalls, Surfside, South Carolina.
