It was reported this week that Newport News will pay the Mattaponi Indian Tribe $650,000 as a settlement in a 10-year-old lawsuit associated with the proposed King William reservoir and the tribe's water rights that date back to a 1677 treaty. It appears this settlement may clear the way for this reservoir project.
